Diode vs Alexandrite: The Operator’s Guide to Conversion Rates

Struggling to choose between Diode and Alexandrite? Learn how wavelength selection impacts patient conversion and long-term clinic profitability.

By Joseph Coram

We often see new clinic owners obsessing over technical specs when the real conversion metric is the patient’s skin type and their tolerance for discomfort. In our experience, the Alexandrite laser remains the gold standard for lighter skin types because its 755nm wavelength hits the melanin peak harder, leading to faster visible results that drive word-of-mouth referrals. However, if we are looking at total market reach and long-term retention, the Diode 810nm offers superior safety for darker Fitzpatrick scales and typically requires less downtime between sessions. We find that converting a consultation into a prepaid package is easier when we lead with the Diode’s comfort profile, especially for large areas like the back or legs. The best conversion strategy is not choosing one over the other, but having a platform that offers both wavelengths to ensure we never have to turn a patient away due to their specific skin profile.
