We have seen a significant shift in patient expectations regarding tattoo removal and pigment correction. While older Q-switched lasers were the industry workhorse for decades, we now prioritize picosecond technology because it delivers energy in trillionths of a second rather than billionths. This photomechanical impact shatters ink particles into much smaller fragments, which allows the lymphatic system to clear them more efficiently. From an operator perspective, we focus on the reduction in total treatment sessions required to reach clearance, as this improves patient satisfaction and increases room turnover. When we integrate these devices, we must account for the higher consumable costs of specialized handpieces and the necessity of robust cooling systems to manage epidermal heat. We find that the ability to treat stubborn blue and green inks with specific wavelengths like 755nm or 532nm provides a competitive edge that justifies the initial capital expenditure in a crowded market.
